Day 18 Issachar Devotion:
He Can Redeem!

Dear Friends:

I don’t often write you, but felt led to write this morning.  I was thinking of these tumultuous times.  When Chuck asked me to write the foreword for his book, Redeeming the Time, I shared the following:

“Time…We waste it, manage it, even kill it, but when it’s gone, we can never get it back.  Or can we?  In this book by my husband, the concept of redeeming time is explored through the eyes of a man who understands and appreciates the value of time and the need that all of us experience: the need to buy back time, correct our mistakes, and wipe clean our spiritual slates.

Chuck and I both experienced childhoods stained with alcoholism and its accompanying effects.  Like the children of many alcoholics, we felt cheated out of normal, functional family life and would have welcomed the opportunity to go back in time and get another chance with one or both of our parents.  And yet, we both recognize that who we are today is largely due to the circumstances of our childhoods.  Fortunately, we don’t have access to a literal, physical time machine so we aren’t free to go back and tamper with the challenges that shaped us.  We do, however, have access to the redemptive power of the eternal One who makes all things work together for our good and His purposes.

There are concepts and principles that center around the mystery and wonder of time as God defines and ordains them.  In spite of how we humans squander the time we are given or try to manipulate the clock to fit into our plans, God is ultimately the One in control.  Because of this, we can enter into a new dimension of faith where time is concerned.  With a new understanding of time and God’s redemptive plan for each one of us—whether past, present, or future—we can embark on a whole new adventure where time is concerned.

Regardless of your circumstances right now, you can face the future with hope knowing that the God of your past and present is ordering your steps.  Open your heart and your mind to the reality of God’s presence in every cycle of your life.  Let’s prepare to shift into new calls and new victories.”

What I would like to say to you is this: we are in difficult times!  Many of you are walking in trying, hard places.  I want to be a testimonial to you today and say that you can endure and make your way through these distressing, narrow, hard places.  You will be a triumphant overcomer!  Your testimony can be used against the enemy who attempted to hurt, block, and even destroy the purposes of God in you.  Remember, this is not just about you, but the God who dwells within you. You have surrendered your life to Him; let each of us allow Him to rise within us. In doing so causing the enemy’s plans to be defeated. He came to destroy the devil’s works. Greater is He who is in you that he who is in the world!

Blessings,
Pamela J. Pierce
